What Does 20/15 Vision Mean?
What Does 20/15 Vision Mean? A Closer Look at Superior Visual Acuity Vision is the most treasured sense, enabling us to perceive and interact with the world around us. Most people are familiar with the […]
As adults, our eyes will predictably undergo three vision milestones. At, SharpeVision, we have vision correction solutions for each of these milestones regardless of your age or glasses prescription!
As we reach adulthood, our glasses prescription stabilizes, and the lenses in our eyes are still flexible. We heal quickly and can enjoy the benefits of vision correction for a very long time. Young adulthood is an ideal time to have laser vision correction. At SharpeVision, we have solutions to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism that include LASIK, PRK, and EVO ICL.™
You deserve to live a life free of glasses and contacts. At SharpeVision, we have a solution for you!
The most common procedures recommended for this age range are:
(Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is the most recommended procedure to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It is a 6-8 minute procedure that uses two precision lasers to permanently change the shape of the eye. Numbing eye drops are applied to the eye, and the surgeon creates a thin circular flap on the surface of the cornea. The surgeon lifts the flap to access the underlying cornea. The surgeon then applies programmed laser pulses to shape the cornea to achieve perfectly clear uncorrected vision. The flap is then repositioned and the patient goes home to rest. Vision is foggy immediately after the procedure, but most people see 20/20 the next day.
(Photorefractive Keratectomy) is a complement to LASIK and has been performed in the US since 1995. PRK is recommended for patients with corneas too thin for LASIK, whose anatomy prevents LASIK, and for certain vocational requirements. The results of PRK are the same asLASIK, and we use the same lasers, but no flap is created. With PRK, the surface skin layer of the cornea is removed, the laser is applied, and a protective contact lens is placed on the eye. PRK requires additional recovery time compared to LASIK as the surface of the cornea takes 4-5 days to heal.
(Implantable Contact Lens) is an additional technique to correct moderate to severe nearsightedness often outside the range (up to -15) that can be treated with LASIK. Unlike traditional contact lenses that go on the surface of the eye, the EVO ICL is placed in the eye behind the iris (the colored part of the eye) where it stays indefinitely. EVO ICL is a painless 8 minute procedure that permanently corrects your vision. There is no post-operative eye irritation, no tissue removal, and it can be removed, if ever needed. Over 2,000,000 ICLs have been implanted worldwide with a 99% satisfaction rate.
As we age, we lose flexibility in the natural lens of our eye. This is called presbyopia, or Dysfunctional Lens Syndrome (DLS). Everyone loses lens flexibility and will need glasses or contacts for either distance vision, near vision, or both at about 45 years old or older. Solutions for vision correction at this age may include LASIK, PRK, EVO ICL,™ or refractive lens exchange (RLE). Monovision is also an excellent option to potentially allow you to have good distance and near vision.
Near or Far? Enjoy perfect vision now. This is the future of vision over 45.
The most common procedures recommended for this age range are:
(Refractive Lens Exchange) may be the best option for patients over the age of 45. In our 40s and 50s, the lens of our eye becomes less flexible, and we lose our ability to focus on objects up close. RLE replaces your lens with a customized artificial lens, IOL, that corrects your nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and need for reading glasses—AND you won’t need cataract surgery as you age!
Monovision may be possible using any vision correction procedure. It is simply correcting one eye to focus on objects at a distance and the other eye to focus on objects up close. Our doctors will discuss this option with anyone over 40 years old and can demo the results for you.
Milestone 01 procedures may also be appropriate depending on your prescription, anatomy, and visual needs.
In our 40s, the lenses in our eyes become less flexible. When we’re in our 60s and older, the lenses of our eyes become less clear. This loss of clarity is called a cataract, and it usually progresses slowly. The symptoms of cataracts begin with increasing difficulty driving at night and with glare from oncoming headlights. Depending on your vision needs, we recommend cataract surgery to replace your cloudy, inflexible lens with a clear custom lens.
This is not your parents’ cataract surgery. This is laser-assisted cataract extraction.
Your age shouldn’t determine your quality of vision. At SharpeVision, we offer the highest technology Quality of Life IOLs (intraocular lenses) that allow you to see near, far, and everything in between. After your surgeon selects a custom IOL specifically tailored for your vision needs, your cloudy, inflexible lens is replaced in a 10-15 minute painless, outpatient procedure in our state-of-the-art Surgery Suite.
A cataract is diagnosed when the lens of the eye is cloudy. Like a dirty window, a cloudy lens is difficult to see through. As cataracts progress, it becomes increasingly hard to see and do the things you enjoy. Cataract surgery quickly and painlessly replaces the clouded lens with a new artificial lens implant. Cataracts can affect one or both eyes and are a normal part of aging. If you live long enough, you will likely have cataracts to some degree. Factors such as smoking, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and sun exposure can speed up the clouding of the lens of your eye.
