Comprehensive Exam
A comprehensive examination is the only way to know which vision correction procedure is best for you. We do this at no charge because we believe so strongly in giving patients all the information necessary to make the right treatment choice. Our highly trained technicians will use a variety of specialized equipment to measure just about every part of your eye. While your exam involves comprehensive diagnostic testing, it is also our opportunity to learn more about you, your expectations, and your lifestyle. All of these factors play an important role in recommending the best procedure for you. *Your exam will include dilation of your pupils, which will affect your eyesight for about 4-6 hours, as you may have experienced with a routine eye exam. Dilation is part of a comprehensive examination which is recommended every 1-2 years. If you prefer, we can defer that component, and it will not affect our ability to complete your vision correction consultation or your surgical outcome in any way.
The complete exam can take up to 90 minutes. After all the data is collected by your technician, your doctor will examine your eyes, get an accurate measurement of your vision, review your diagnostic results, discuss your treatment recommendation, and answer any questions you have. The surgical coordinator will then meet with you in your exam room and go over any questions you have about scheduling and payment options.
Before Procedure
Most patients will achieve perfect measurements at their initial consultation, but in special cases, a separate appointment may be scheduled to accomplish two main objectives: to repeat the refraction, or measurements, of your prescription after your contacts have been out of your eyes for the prescribed amount of time and to measure the diameter of your cornea with a highly sensitive machine.
Day of Procedure
On the day of your procedure, we will instill many medicated drops in your eyes to prepare you for the EVO ICL. There is also numbing medicine that will sting for about ten seconds until it takes effect. The procedure itself takes less than 15 minutes per eye, with about 20 minutes between eyes to prep the operating room. The procedure is painless, although most people are initially uncomfortable with the bright light of the microscope. Your surgeon will talk with you during the procedure and let you know what you’ll see and feel. Your vision will be very blurry and foggy after the procedure due to the many drops, the surgery itself, and the bright lights.
Post-Procedure
We will need to check the pressure in your eyes about two hours after completion. You are welcome to stay in the office or leave and return after two hours. We will then review the medications and plan on seeing you the following day. You may experience some mild grittiness, but not pain. The following day, your vision will be much better but still somewhat foggy and mildly scratchy.
